Rue explains to her that Cal is Nate's father and a very powerful figure in East Highland. Jules tells Rue that Cal is the man she's been sleeping with, which is met with an incredulous laugh from Rue. Kat meets up with Ethan, the boy from her biology class, but Kat misreads a conversation between him and Becky and leaves in fury to hook up with Luke Kasten who has a bad reputation.
Both frustrated and sick of boys, the two decide to do MDMA together. McKay tries to explain to her why he said that, but Cassie storms off and runs into Maddy. Meanwhile, Cassie feels humiliated when McKay tells Nate that they’re not dating. Jules tells Rue things aren't weird between them, despite the kiss, and Rue breathes a deep sigh of relief. Nate tells Maddy to go home and get changed before the camera swings wildly across to Rue and Jules, who lock eyes and run up to one another, embracing in a long hug. Nate ridicules Maddy's provocative outfit, Kat and Jules scream on the Ferris wheel in the distance, and Fez and Ashtray set up shop. We then move to the carnival where all of our characters are hanging out, where we see an impressive one-shot scene that effortlessly moves between each of the teenagers. Ali compares her obsession with Jules to a drug addiction. This unfortunately leads to her finding solace in cutting, before we see her age through the years, eventually catching us up to where we are now – with Jules in love and Rue by her side as her friend.Īs we cut back to present day, we find Ali and Rue discussing how she feels. A gorgeous shot involving blurred imagery in the corners of the frame follows, where we see Jules' body image problems beginning. As a child, she was tricked into staying at a psychiatric ward by Amy Vaughn, her mother. Kat hangs out with Ethan until she misreads a situation. Cassie and Maddy, annoyed at their boyfriends, decide to do molly together. Jules encounters Cal with his family – and finally meets Tyler. Rue tries to get clean for Jules and chaperones Gia at the carnival.
